How to Download Star Trek Sounds
How you install Star Trek music or sound effects depend on how you hope to use the them.
- To install a ringtone, there are two methods to download. Once you find a Star Trek ringtone that you like, most ringtone websites offer two methods, either the website is sent directly to your cellphone number, or you have the option to download the mp3 file to a computer or directly to your cellphone using WAP (wireless internet), and installing the file into your phone's ringtone folder. Either way will work, but mostly depends upon the brand and features of your phone and the cellphone carrier.
- Installing computer sound effects is fairly easy on a Mac. All you do is drag the sound file onto the System Folder icon, and the OS knows where to place the file (as long as it's in ".aiff" format. In Windows, on most operating systems you can download any of the Star Trek WAV files into the C:\Windows\Media folder. In the control panel under "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the "Sounds" tab you can browse to the file you want for any of the Windows program events listed there. This can make for a very fun and authentic Star Trek computing experience!
- Installing Star Trek sounds or themes onto your mobile device depends mostly on what device you are using. In some cases it's as easy as downloading the sound files directly to the device, just as you would a ringtone. However with devices like a GPS or PDA, sometimes there are special theme files you need to find which come with their own setup program (see the Windows Mobile example below).
