New Transformer Movie

The new Transformers movie is called Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. It is a sequel to the original Transformers, which came out in 2007. With many of the same characters from the first movie, Transformers 2 continues the story of Earth protected by the Autobots from the Decepticons. The two robot sides have been battling it out for millennia and it doesn’t stop in the new Transformers movie.

Many of the actors and actresses from the first Transformers continue their roles in this sequel. A couple of new faces appear, as well as some new voices portray the additional robots that weren’t in the previous movie.

  • Reno Wilson—Voice of Mudflap (did the voice of Frenzy in the original Transformers)
  • Tom Kenny—Skids, Wheelie (a small radio-controlled monster truck)
  • Tony Todd—The Fallen
  • Frank Welker—Devastator
  • Mark Ryan—Jetfire (Jetfire was originally a Decepticon in the movie, but ultimately turns to the Autobots side to help the humans.

Plot

Sam Witwicky is off to college, but the first few days of his freshman year is interrupted by strange visions of odd symbols. At first, he thinks he is going crazy, but he soon learns that these symbols are a riddle to find the spot where the Matrix of Leadership, where a tomb of Primes holds the key for Earth’s survival.

Unfortunately, the Decepticons have confirmed that Sam holds the map to the Matrix of Leadership in his head and are on a destructive mission to find Sam and get to the hidden location before the Autobots.

The Autobots work with the United States armies and eventually different armies of the world. The Decepticons are assisted by an old Prime named The Fallen. While not in the mist of the battles in the movie, The Fallen keeps a watchful eye from above, using a satellite to give enemy locations and other intel to the Autobots.

Behind the Scenes

Michael Bay assumes the director role again (and takes on an executive producer role) in the Transformer’s sequel. Steven Spielberg remains one of the executive producers. Some of the other producers and executive producers are:

  • Mark Vahradian. Also has produced ‘’Nancy Drew’’ and ‘’Annapolis’’.
  • Brian Goldner—Also produced ‘’G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’’.
  • Ian Bryce—Also produced ‘’Hancock’’, ‘’Spider-Man’’, and ‘’Saving Private Ryan’’.
  • Tom DeSanto—Also produced ‘’X-Men’’ and ‘’X2’’.

Of the three writers, one is new to the Transformer universe. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman return to script the movie and Ehren Kruger joins them as a new writer. Kruger has also written ‘’Arlington Road’’, ‘’The Ring’’, ‘’The Ring Two’’, and ‘’Imposter’’.

Box Office

From day one, the new Transformers movie has been increase the gross box office daily. On the first day, including the midnight release, the movie grossed $60 million. The next day, the movie did $28 million. The three day weekend following (opening weeked) ‘’Revenge of the Fallen’’ made $108 million, bringing the gross total to about $200 million. While the movie has not broken any records, the Transformer movie jump started the summer of 2009’s box office season with a positive outlook for the rest of the year. As of this writing, the sequel has grossed about $365 million dollars in the United States and approximately $760 million worldwide.

Transformers 3

Not much has been released about the third Transformers movie, but it is temporarily scheduled to be released in July 2012 and is currently being pitched (as of July 2009) to DreamWorks SKG. The second Transformer’s movie definitely left room for a sequel and the potential for an even bigger box office hit.
