It's hard to believe Smallville is in its ninth season until you take a look at the Smallville episode list. This list shows all the episodes for the first eight seasons and can be a handy tool whether trying to recall a pertinent bit of trivia or searching for a specific episode title or air date.
Smallville Episode List By Season
If you don't own all the episodes of Smallville yet, today many full episodes can be viewed online at no charge and others can be viewed as Video on Demand for a small price. A short synopsis of where each season begins and ends will help you locate the episode you're looking for.
Season One
Season one's pilot starts out with young Clark Kent struggling to fit in with his peers as he becomes aware of his emerging powers. The season concludes with the spaceship in the Kents' basement activating as a tornado bears down on Smallville. While all this is going on, a reporter discovers Clark's super powers and the alien ship.

Season Two
Season two picks up with Clark rescuing Lana from the eye of the tornado, but his father and the nosy reporter who learned of his secret are buried alive when the spaceship is let loose into the fields. The season closes in true Smallville fashion with plenty of tension leaving viewers with a sense of foreboding. Clark is left with a choice: stay with Lana and his family or follow his destiny to rule the Earth.

Season Three
Season three kicks off with Clark under the influence of red kryptonite. While living in Metropolis, he gets caught up with a crime lord by the name of Morgan Edge who hires him to break into LuthorCorp. By season's end Clark is introduced to a gorgeous young woman who has superpowers and claims to be from Krypton. She wants Clark to join her to fulfill his destiny. When he talks to his parents for advice, he learns that Jonathan made a deal with Jor-El.

Season Four
Season four opens with Clark's return to Smallville, but it isn't the Clark we expect. He's been "re-programmed". Clark's mother, Martha, is determined to save her son and turns to Dr. Swann's emissary for help. Through her, Martha learns about a surprising new form of kryptonite. The fourth season's opener also brings Lana back from Paris along with a new boyfriend. The season concludes with Clark piecing together the true reason he is on earth after he has a nightmare that shows him something awful is going to happen to Smallville. He journeys to the cave to get answers for Jor-El, and his biological father explains that he must bring the three crystals together immediately to avert cataclysmic devastation.

Season Five
Season five finds Clark transported to the Fortress of Solitude, where Jor-El tells him he cannot return to Smallville. This episode has all kinds of twists and turns as Jor El forbids Clark to return to Smallville because he must prepare to save the planet. However, Chloe is also transported to the Fortress and can't handle the sub-freezing temperatures. Clark takes Chloe back to Smallville, but the clock is ticking. He must return by sunset. While all this is going on, Lana witnesses two Kryptonian aliens disembark from a spaceship found among the remnants of a meteor shower.
By the conclusion of season five, Brainiac lets loose a deadly virus with the potential to kill millions. He uses this to blackmail Clark. It's the vaccine for the release of General Zod. As an added twist, Lex has his own superpowers, and Lana is now his girl. Wait til she finds out how Lex's destiny is about to change thanks to Brainiac.

Season Six
Season six opens with Clark in a Kryptonian jail in the Phantom Zone without his powers. To make matters worse he is surrounded by criminals who were sent away by his father. The tension heightens as elsewhere Lex's body is taken over by Zod who holds Lana captive. His plan is for her to sire an heir. By the end of the season Lana tells Lex she is leaving him, and Martian Manhunter returns for a guest appearance. He's there to help Clark stop Lex from finding the last wraith form the Phantom Zone.

Season Seven
Season seven picks up with Clark's battle with the last Phantom Zone wraith, while Lex is rescued by a mysterious woman. By season's end Lex travels to the Fortress to fulfill his destiny and Lana awakens from her coma.

Season Eight
Green Arrow asks fellow heroes Black Canary, and Aquaman, to step in and help find Clark who was last spotted in the Arctic. While this is going on, Chloe is kidnapped by a group who are aware of her special power. The season concludes with a showdown. Even though Doomsday poses a real threat, Clark can't bring himself to take Davis' life. This forces Oliver and his team to take over and put Chloe in the middle of the conflict.

Smallville's Future
This Smallville episode list takes us through season 8, and doesn't begin to reflect the uncertainty fans face each year wondering if Smallville will return for another season. It's no different this year. Fans have learned that speculation doesn't make rumors true. After all, the rumor mill had the show canceled after season seven and look where it is today! Smallville is anything but small.
