Star Trek Starships Database
From LoveToKnow Sci-Fi
Finding a Star Trek starships database is relatively simple. There are fan sites as well as official sites you can visit to find Star Trek ships of all kinds. Check out some of the sites below to get your starships database fix.
Planetside
Planetside is a well-organized fan site that lists many ships from different factions. The website was last updated in 2005, but the information provided is vast. Clicking on a ship's link brings up a picture of the ship and some quick specifications like the class of ship, what faction it belongs to, the year the ship started service and ended (if relevant), and the artists who created the ship.
On most of the ships pages, you can find a good description of why the ship was built and what unique features made the ship different from others in the fleet. All the major races are represented:
- United Federation of Planets
- Klingon Empire
- Romulan Empire
- Cardassians
- Ferengi Alliance
As well as a few lesser-known races:
- Talarian Empire
- Pakleds
- Miradorn
- Andorans
One special feature of the website is when you click on a ship, there is a PDF file available that gives deeper specifications as well as a ship layout. You can see where rooms and the bridge are located as well as weapons.
Star Trek Starships Database at DITL
At the Daystrom Institute Technical Library you can find a detailed site from fans of Star Trek. On the first look, the site seems busy, with too much information, but you'll soon see how it's organized. As you click items at the top of the page, the left side menu changes to relevant information. For instance, when you click on the "Fed. Ships" button, the left side changes to all the different classes of Federation ships. Perusing through this Star Trek starships database will elicit a lot of information.
Some information you'll find:
- Weapons systems
- Mass of ship
- Warp speeds
- Expected Hull life.
- Television episode and series the ship was in (if any).
- You'll even find the different battles the class of ship was involved in.
Star Trek.com
For an official Star Trek starship database, visit Star Trek. The list of ships is alphabetical, but it is very easy to read. You get a column of ships and what episode the ship was shown in. The list on this site only tells you about ships that actually made it into the Star Trek movies or television shows. While other sites give information about ships that may have never been seen, you get the official description from the designers and the writers. To make your search quicker, there is a little slider that moves the list of ships through the letters. So if you know the name of the ship or class of ship, then you can find it quickly this way.
USS Endeavour
The website USS Endeavour is UK based and very easy to use. It's more of a personal "Endeavour" for the author, who tries to add a couple of ships per week. Select what type of ship and the function and any part of the name and it pulls up all the ships that are listed. The database is light as of this writing, but it is constantly updated and continues to be updated. The ships that are listed are from the following series:
Starship Database
The Starship Database website is awkward to navigate, but lists every ship from all the movies and television shows. If you just need absolute basic information about a starship, this is the site to go to. You get the name of the ship, the NCC designation, and the class of ship. There are four headings that the ships are listed under:
- Famous Ships. This includes well-known ships like the Enterprise.
- Starship names. The large database where the ships are listed.
- Starship Classes. Includes Federation and Alien starships.
- Starship Types. Similar to classes, but lists in more detail the designation.
