Who Was the Leader of the Transformers
From LoveToKnow Sci-Fi
Who was the leader of the Transformers? If you're a Transformers fan and have followed their success from the cartoons to the big screen, you know the answer isn't as simple as some may think. It's much like asking who was the President of the United States during the Civil War. In the case of the Transformers the history of leadership is unique because we're talking Sci-fi.
Transformers Cartoon
In the first episode of the Transformers cartoon series, Optimus Prime wa established as the leader of the Autobots while Megatron led the Decepticons. All of them are Transformers, but they are two distinct groups with two different leaders. The Autobots are good and the Decepticons are brutally evil.
Difference Between Autobots and Decepticons
Transformers as we know them today are intelligent robots that can think, feel and transform. While the two groups both originated on the planet Cybertron, the Transformer mythos explains that the Autobots originated from a slave robot line, and they are the ones who discovered the power to transform first. Not to be outdone, the Decepticons, led by Megatron, soon learned to transform. The difference was that they used their powers for evil as they sought total domination. In the process, they did their best to destroy the Autobots. The war devastated the planet and drained its energy supply until finally both groups left Cybertron in search of a new energy source. This quest for energy carried the war off planet.
A battle in space resulted in the Decepticons boarding the Autobots ship known as Ark. The Autobots defended their ship but in the struggle, the ship crashed to the planet known as Earth. For four million years, the ship and all of the Transformers, Autobots and Decepticons, were rendered dormant until a volcano activated the ships regeneration powers. The ships systems revived both the Autobots and Decepticons. They awakened to modern day earth and the battle between the two groups of Transformers now involved Earth. The Autobots picked up the cause to protect Earth while the Decepticons planned to dominate it and claim its resources for Cybertron

Transformers: Cyberton
If you're wondering who was the leader of the Transformers in the 2005 movie, Transformers: Cyberton, Optimus Prime was over the Autobots when they learned that a black hole threatened their entire universe. Optimus Prime led his Autobots to Earth for safety. While they lived hidden from the humans, an ancient Autobot by the name of Vector Prime contacted them and gave them information on how to stop the black hole. They had to find the 4 Cyber Planet Keys. Of course the Decepticons learned the same information and the race to find the keys, makes for an action packed movie.
Who Was the Leader of the Transformers?
Leadership of the Transformers has passed from one transformer to another, but the elite group that have been in leadership roles is small. During the mission to find the 4 Cyber Planet Keys, Optimus Prime died and Ultra Magnus became the new leader of the Autobots. This stint of leadership was cut short, though, when Rodimus Prime defeated him and rose to power.
The Decepticon's leadership goes through a different kind of change, when Megatron transforms into Galvatron. Even though he is a new character, he is also still Megatron.
In the most recent movie, Revenge of the Fallen, Optimus Prime is resurrected and again leads the Autobots. As you can see, leadership among the Transformers is an evolutionary process.
